The culture has a lot to say lately about identity. In fact, a recent study revealed that thirty-six percent of millennials say that social media has helped them find their identity. To the contrary, Erika Myers, a licensed counselor from Oregon states, “Having a well-developed sense of self is hugely beneficial in helping us make choices in life. From something as small as favorite foods to larger concerns like personal values, knowing what comes from our own self versus what comes from others allows us to live authentically.”
It's vitally important for us to trust our source for information. Turning to the Bible, the book of Ephesians is filled with truths about our identity. Jeannie Myers wrote last week on the Ten Beautiful, True Things God Says about You.
1. I am Beloved. He loves you deeply and passionately and intimately. Turn toEPHESIANS 3to see.
2. I am a Masterpiece. “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”- EPHESIANS 2:10
3. I am Chosen. “For he chose us in Him before creating the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.”- EPHESIANS 1:4
4. I am Holy. He chose you because He loved you and wanted to make you holy.
5. I am Forgiven. "In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.” - EPHESIANS 1:7
6. I Am a New Creation. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”- SECOND CORINTHIANS 5:17
7. I Am Redeemed. ”For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”- COLOSSIANS 1:13-14
8. I am Worth More Than Gold. You may feel insignificant or even worthless, but Jesus declared your value when He paid for you with His blood.
9. I am a Child of the King. “God did not rescue you and send you on your way. He brought you into His family, adopting you as His own.”- JOHN 1:12
10. I am an Heir of God. When God adopted you, He granted you the full rights of one of His children. It’s staggering but true—you are now a sibling and co-heir of Jesus. Jesus, the Son of God, Heir of all things. ReadROMANS 8:17, 29.
