Wise Choices

Looking back to my youth, life seemed so simple. Rice Krispies or Cornflakes. Cherry or chocolate dip. Iced tea or lemonade.

Having ministered in Third-World countries, I know we're living in the greatest country of opportunities, where choices are almost limitless. In fact, Cornell University researchers found we make an astounding 226.7 decisions on food alone and average 35,000 daily, whether conscious, unconscious or automatic habits.

Our choices produce good and bad results, some immediate, others prolonged. Adam and Eve's decision certainly had consequences that describe the stark reality of our world today, suffering the consequences of disobedient and poor choices. If a diabetic ingests sugary sweets often, there will be a reaction. Choosing to run a marathon without training produces physical pain/injury. Selecting a partner with visible “red flags” will cause emotional distress.

So, when our biggest decisions are before us, we need to consult our closest confidante and God's instruction manual. Some scriptures for reference...

PROVERBS 3:5-6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

JOSHUA 24:15

“But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

GALATIANS 6:7-8

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.  Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”

PROVERBS 12:15

“The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.”
